Arts Education in school
The goal of our Youth Arts Education Program is to ensure that young people of color — many of whom belong to generations of marginalized communities — have access to quality, culturally relevant arts learning at a time when they are on the cusp of finding their fuller future selves.
In 2024-25 Loco Bloco provided Afro-Latinx percussion and dance residencies curriculum in three schools that serve students and families in the lower two percentile neighborhoods of the California HPI index: Willie Brown Middle School (Bay View District); Visitacion Valley Middle School (Visitacion Valley District); and Mission Education Center Elementary (Mission District; a transitional school for newcomer Latinx students).
Our master teaching artists taught students dance and percussion styles from Brazil, the Caribbean and the North American diaspora that included samba, samba reggae, reggaeton and hip hop.
